[DOI: 10.13173/9783447118736.597 Abstract: The organisation of images in symmetrical duplication is an aesthetic element that changes according to decorative or narrative purposes, reflecting a concept of world order. Hittite art shows a clear tendency towards organisation following symmetrical order: mirror imagery appears to have played an important role in cylinder, stamp and especially ring seals. In this paper, the symmetrical composition of seals will be compared to that of selected works of art such as rock reliefs, sculptures, metal objects and ivory carvings. In the analysis of seals and seal impressions, all elements will be taken into consideration, including Hittite hieroglyphic signs, the use of which follows schemes that appear to be attentive to the appearance of the arrangement as much as the clarity of the text.]
